Thank you for requesting our FREE easy mini-lesson, "O" What a Difference!. This teaches how to clearly pronounce a vital English sound so you will be better understood. Learning this skill should help stop those pesky questions you may receive as often as every 30 minutes at work, such as, "What?" or "Say that again?"

Can you really get a huge improvement in the clarity of your speech by pronouncing just one sound perfectly? My experience as a speech therapist working with people who struggle with their heavily accented speech is absolutely yes. The sound I have in mind is /o/.
One of the most common problems for English as a second (perhaps you are a third or fourth) language speaker is that you fall into the trap of believing that when a word is spelled with an /o/ that vowel should really be pronounced as /o/.
Actually, that's not the way it is. Most of the time words spelled with an /o/ in English are pronounced as an "ah". Here is a list of commonly mispronounced words where the /o/ is pronounced as "ah". If you make this change, you take a big step forward in speaking English more clearly. The next most important action for you to take is to remember to use this new skill in conversation often in your everyday life. Examples: Saying words out loud while reading your emails or write a list of words with the /o/ sound on your smart phone or sticky note. Use them as often as you can during the day with your "colleagues" (which is actually a word with the /o/ sound in it).
